Herbert John Pitman was a White Star Line ships officer, serving the company as an officer from 19th April 1907 until the later part of 1912, when he was then transferred to being a purser due to failing an eye set test required for deck officers. He was born in Sutton Montis, Somerset, United Kingdom on 20th November 1877. Titanic – serving as 3rd Officer from 26th March 1912 until 15th April 1912.
Oceanic – serving as 3rd Officer from 2nd July 1912 until 1st October 1912.
He continued serving White Star Line as a purser.
